Tomato soup is a type of soup made with tomatoes as the primary ingredient. It can be made using fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes, or tomato sauce. Tomato soup is usually seasoned with herbs and spices like fresh basil, and it often has a creamy or milk-based texture. According to historians, the first time tomato soup is mentioned was way back in 1857 when Eliza Leslie talked about it in her New Cooker Book. A few decades later, Joseph Campbell-the founder of Campbell’s Soup Company-made condensed tomato soup even more popular with his own version of Campbell’s tomato soup. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Tips for Making Tomato Soup with Tomato Sauce

Making tomato soup at home is easy, but there are a few things you can do to make sure it turns out perfectly every time. Here are our top tips:

  1. Use fresh tomatoes if you can. You can also use canned diced tomatoes or tomato sauce. Just be sure to drain the canned tomatoes before adding them to the soup.
  2. Add some sugar to balance out the acidity of the tomatoes. This will help create a more well-rounded flavor.
  3. Use low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth to control the amount of salt in the soup.
  4. Stir in some milk at the end for a creamier soup. You can also use half-and-half or cream if desired.
  5. Season the soup to taste with salt and black pepper. Be careful not to oversalt, as the Parmesan cheese will add some additional saltiness.
